Paul will address the new rules for the three major credit reporting agencies that was implemented on July 1, 2017.  As part of this change, a majority of civil debts and tax liens will be excluded, which means some credit scores will edge higher. Who will be effected and how this will help certain borrowers and potentially hurt others? What you need to discuss with your borrowers during the application process. Paul will also discuss Fannie's recently changed guidelines for trade-lines that are marked "disputed by consumer" and civil judgments.

2:50 PM - 3:50 PM GENERAL SESSION C: "New York's Cybersecurity Regulation (23 NYCRR Part 500) Time Is Almost Up: Is Your Company NYSDFS Cybersecurity Compliant?" Q&A

NYSDFS Cybersecurity Regulations (23 NYCRR 500), Implementation Requirements and Timeline

  • Relevance : This session will provide instruction on the essentials of information security or cybersecurity compliance. This would include: (i) How to identify Non Public Personal Information (“NPPI”) that Covered Entity staff see, send, receive ad process every day in the course of processing a transaction; (ii) a discussion of the federal, state and local regulator laws, rules and regulations concerning the safeguarding and disposal of NPPI; (iii) the process of implementing cybersecurity safeguard controls (administrative, physical and network/technical); (iv) common compliance issues identified in Covered Entity operations and quick wins; and (v) the NYSDFS Cybersecurity Regulations and how they will impact Covered Entities providers.

  • Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Participants will develop: Participants will develop an awareness of: (i) how to recognize NPPI; (ii) how to properly store physically & digitally NPPI while “at rest”; (iii) how to transmit NPPI; (iv) how to create a Privacy Smart work culture and their role in maintaining such a culture; (v) how to properly dispose of NPPI. After taking the course, participants will appreciate the importance of safeguarding NPPI, understand how to identify it and their role in safeguarding such NPPI through its lifecycle; (vi) what is required of Covered Entities who are both able and unable to avail themselves of the “Limited Exemption.”; and (vii) the NYS DFS Cybersecurity Implementation Timeline.
